Fiat Chrysler to recall 1.8m trucks

(MENAFN) US unit of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, has announced it would recall nearly 1.8m trucks in the US, Canada, Mexico and other countries, in order to fix a part if not functioning, might lead the driver to shift out of park without depressing the brake pedal.

According to the company, it was aware of seven possible related injuries and a "small number" of potentially related accidents.

The recall only involves vehicles equipped with shifters mounted on their steering columns, as those with rotary-dial shifters or floor-mounted shifters are clear.

The brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) might not work efficiently if it was under specific high-temperature conditions for prolonged periods, and if it becomes disabled it might also lead the driver to shift out of park without the key in the ignition.
