Russian, Turkish leaders stress Palestinian statehood


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MOSCOW, Dec 22 (KUNA) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed on Friday that it is necessary to find a solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in line with relevant UN resolutions.

Both leaders made the remark during a contact initiated by the Russian leader, during which they discussed the latest Middle East developments in the aftermath of a recent UN General Assembly resolution on Jerusalem, the Russian presidential press center said on Friday.

They exchanged views on the current situation in Syria and underlined the importance of bilateral cooperation with a view to finding a concrete political settlement to the conflict there, it said.

The UN General Assembly on Thursday adopted by an overwhelming majority a resolution rejecting the recent US decision on Jerusalem and demanding all countries to comply with UN Security Council resolutions regarding the status of Jerusalem.

The resolution adopted at an emergency meeting by a recorded vote of 128 in favor to nine against, with 35 abstentions. (end) as.mt
