First contest of innovative projects held in Baku

An event dedicated to summing up the results of the first contest of innovative projects, which was organized by the United Nations Development Program and the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan.

Four state structures have concluded an agreement to ensure sustainable activity in the innovation sphere: the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, the Ministry of Economy, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ASAN).

Addressing the event, Economy Minister Shahin Mustafayev stressed that the economic development of Azerbaijan is directly related to the introduction of demanded innovations in the country, ensuring the qualitative growth of processes or products.

Azerbaijan in recent years has been integrating innovative projects, as well as preparing new measures for the transition to an innovative economy, according to the minister.

Mustafayev noting the value of the successful innovation contest, said that henceforth such events will be held annually.

In turn, the coordinator-resident of the United Nations Organization in Azerbaijan, Gulam Isakzai, stressed that in the future these contests will contribute to the promotion of investments in innovative spheres, and will also contribute to the improvement of the national innovation system.

About 200 projects covering innovations in the economic, social and environmental spheres were submitted to the first innovation competition in Azerbaijan.

As a result of the event, the authors were awarded diplomas and incentive prizes.

Azerbaijan was admitted to the United Nations on March 2, 1992 at the 46th session of the UN General Assembly. On the same day, the national flag of Azerbaijan was raised in front of the UN headquarters in New York.

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) was the first UN agency to open its branch in Azerbaijan.

UNDP is a global UN development network that advocates for positive change in people's lives by providing participating countries with access to sources of knowledge, expertise and resources.
