Azerbaijan to increase irrigated sown area in 2018

Reconstructing and building new land reclamation and water management facilities will make it possible to increase ​​irrigated sown area in Azerbaijan, Ahmad Ahmadzadeh, chairman of Azerbaijan Melioration and Water Management JSC, said in an article published on December22 in Azerbaijan's 'Respublika newspaper.

The article notes that laying concrete on the riverbed of new branch of Araz river, the construction of which was completed this year, will make it possible to prevent water losses, and 12,000 hectares of land in Azerbaijan's Imishli and Saatli districts will be provided with irrigation next year.

At the same time, after completion of construction of the Neftchala main canal, water supply of 12,433 hectares of land will improve, and after completion of construction of the canal 'N, water supply of 7,551 hectares of land will improve, according to the article.

The article noted that proposals for the continuation of construction and repair work have already been sent to the relevant authorities.
