Qatar boosts ties with Mali, Burkina Faso

Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the President of the Republic of Mali Ibrahim Boubacar Keta held a bilateral meeting yesterday in Bamako to discuss ways of boosting cooperation between both countries as well as the prospects for its development in different fields, especially economy and investment.

The Emir arrived yesterday in the Mali capital on an official visit to the Republic, reported QNA. The President of the Republic of Mali received the Emir and the accompanying delegation at Bamako International Airport.

A round of official talks held at the Presidential Palace in the Malian capital between Qatar, led by the Emir, and Mali, led by the President. The Malian President welcomed the Emir, expressing his thanks to him for accepting the invitation to visit the Republic and reaffirming that the visit will enhance ties between the two countries and achieve what the two friendly countries aspire to.

The Emir thanked the President and the Malian people for the hospitality that he and the accompanying delegation had received, noting that the visit comes as part of deepening the cooperation ties between the two countries on all fronts.
The talks also touched on a number of issues at the regional and international levels, in addition to the two countries' cooperation in combating terrorism. After the talks, the Emir and the Malian President witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of sport between the governments Qatar and the Republic of Mali, and a MoU on cooperation in supporting education between Qatar Fund for Development and the government of the Republic of Mali.

The members of the official delegation accompanying the Emir attended the session and the signing ceremony, while a number of Their Excellencies ministers and senior officials were present from the Malian side. The Emir was seen off by President of the Republic of Mali, Prime Minister Abdoulaye Idrissa Maiga and a number of Their Excellencies ministers and senior officials in Mali, Qatar's Ambassador to Mali, H E Abdulrahman Ali Al Kubaisi; Mali's Ambassador to Qatar, Cheick Ahmed Tidianya; heads of diplomatic missions and staff members of the Qatari embassy.

The Emir sent a cable to the President of Mali, expressing his thanks and appreciation for the warm reception and honour he and the accompanying delegation received during the visit that provided an opportunity to exchange views on issues of common concern and ways to support and strengthen the friendship and cooperation ties between the two countries in the different fields for the good and interest of the two friendly peoples.

Later in the day, the Emir arrived in Ouagadougou on an official visit to Burkina Faso, where he and the accompanying delegation were received at Ouagadougou Airport by President Roch Marc Christian Kabore.
Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Paul Kaba Thieba, also received the Emir along with a number of Their Excellencies ministers and senior officials, Qatar's Ambassador to Burkina Faso H E Mohammed Jaber Al Kuwari; Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Qatar, Adama Compaore; and a number of Their Excellencies heads of diplomatic missions in Burkina Faso.

The Emir and President of Burkina Faso held a round official talks at the Presidential Palace in Ouagadougou. The President welcomed and thanked the Emir for accepting the invitation and expressed his hope that the visit can contribute to advancing bilateral ties, as well as advancing partnership and investment in all joint cooperation fields.
The Emir expressed thanks to the President and the people of Burkina Faso for their welcome. The Emir also expressed happiness with the first visit to West Africa in general, and first to Burkina Faso in particular, stressing Qatar's commitment to enhancing cooperation and friendship with Burkina Faso. The Emir also noted that Qatar will continue to help the people of the country in all fields, and particularly in the health sector.

Qatar and Burkina Faso discussed facets of bilateral cooperation and the means to enhance them in all fields during the official round of talks. They also discussed the latest regional and international developments, and reiterated their commitment to cooperating in the counter-terrorism field. Following the session, H H the Emir and the President oversaw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Qatar Fund for Development and the government of Burkina Faso with regards to establishing a centre for treating cancer in Ouagadougou.

The session and the signing ceremony were attended by their excellencies member of the official delegation accompanying H H the Emir. On the Burkina Faso side, a number of their excellencies ministers and ranking officials also attended.

At the end of an official visit to the Republic of Burkina Faso, H H the Emir left the city of Ouagadougou. Upon departure from Ouagadougou Airport, the Emir was seen off by President of Burkina Faso, Roch Marc Christian Kabore.

In addition, Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Paul Kaba Thieba, was present along with a number of Their Excellencies ministers and senior officials, the State of Qatar's Ambassador to Burkina Faso H E Mohammed Jaber Al Kuwari, Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Qatar Adama Compaore.

The Emir sent a cable to President of Burkina Faso Roch Marc, in which he expressed his thanks and appreciation for the warm reception and honour that he and the accompanying delegation were met with during the visit that provided an opportunity to exchange views on issues of common concern and ways to support and strengthen the friendship and cooperation ties between the two countries in the different fields for the good and interest of the two friendly peoples.
