U.S. Warns UN General Assembly Over Voting Against Jerusalem Recognition


(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Rabat – While the is set to vote on the US recognition of , Nikki Haley, US Ambassador to the UN will be noting the names of countries standing against on Thursday.

On Monday, 14 members of the UN Security Council voted in favor of implementing a draft resolution, stating that any change to the status of Jerusalem has no legal effect and must be reversed. Only the US, which is the fifteenth member of the council voted the resolution.

After the vote, Haley denounced the other members decision to vote in favor of the draft resolution, describing their moves as an 'insult.' She added that this vote 'won't be forgotten' by the US.

'It's one more example of the UN doing more harm than good in addressing the ,' she wrote on Twitter.

On Tuesday, Halley addressed a letter to members of the UN General Assembly, threatening them that the US President will be given the names of those who will vote against the US's decision on Thursday, December 21.

'The president will be watching this vote carefully and has requested I report back on those countries who voted against us. We will take note of each and every vote on this issue,' she wrote in the letter that was shown to some journalists, reported British news outlet BBC.

The UN General Assembly, which is composed of 193 members, is highly anticipated to vote against . The vote will be conducted at a rare emergency session at the request of Arab and Muslim countries who strongly condemned Trump's recognition.

On December 6, Trump made his unprecedented decision to recognize Jerusalem as capital of , and vowed to move the US embassy to the area. The US President's decision set the whole world in fire as both Arab leaders and the international community asked him to reconsider his decisions.

Leaders, including , King Abdullah of Jordan and Turkey's warned Trump over his decision. However, their warning messages did not convince Trump, who standed firm until now regarding his decision, to cancel his decision.
