(MENAFN) A man suspected of being related to the Islamic State extremist group has been arrested in Germany for supposedly planning an attack in the city of Karlsruhe.
According to the Federal Prosecutor General, the 29-year-old German citizen was wanted for connections with a planned criminal act that put the state at risk.
According to investigators, he was planning to smash a vehicle into the stands surrounding an ice rink at the city's central palace square and that he had been conducting research on the target since August.
He had reportedly been applying for jobs as a driver at many delivery companies since September, without any luck.
Prosecutors said he went to Iraq in 2015-16, where is believed to have joined the terrorist network and received training in the use of firearms, in addition to allegedly executing reconnaissance for militant attacks in the city of Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan.
