New beachfront community in Abu Dhabi by March 2018

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Residents of Abu Dhabi can hang out at a new beachfront community centre by March next year.

Named 'Al Bahar', the latest leisure and well-being project for residents will come up on the Abu Dhabi Corniche. Work on the single-phase project started in October and Miral, the developer, is looking to deliver the project in five to six months.

A promenade, stretching over half a kilometre in length, will also be set aside for walking.

Announcing the project, Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi, CEO of Miral, the developer of Yas Island, said: "This is first time we are ann-ouncing a project outside Yas Island. We have learned a lot from working on Yas Island and can capitalise on that learning, in different projects. We have brought the best things from Yas into this project here in the Corniche."

Al Zaabi added: "The location is excellent. It is easy to access and there's a good amount of parking spaces available. This will be a place where residents and families can spend time. They can all come eat, play, shop and enjoy here."

The 80,000-square metre beachfront community space on the corniche will have a kids play area with climbers, playground with football, volleyball and basketball courts, water sports, floating water attractions, concert areas, gym and yoga, morning exercise space, more than 20 food and beverage services outlets, and, hopefully, outdoor cinema and much more. Miral is also in discussion with many operators to run various attractions at the site.

Al Zaabi added: "There will be 22 food and beverage service outlets in permanent shipping containers. We have 48 shipping containers, with some in clusters. We will have two big anchors of F & B outlets. Tenants could change from time to time, as most contracts will be yearly.

"This is first-of-its-kind project. There is a good demand for it. Some deals are signed and others will be closed soon. Also, four or five containers have been leased, so that's 20 per cent."

The CEO hinted there could be more projects in the pipeline. "Depending on the outcome of this project, we will explore more ideas. This will change the way people see the Corniche," Al Zaabi said. The project, in partnership with Abu Dhabi Municipality and Urban Planning Council, will create a new leisure experience on the Abu Dhabi Corniche, the most popular family destination in the emirate.
