Jordan- Agriculture Minister meets ESCWA official


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Dec. 19 (Petra)- Agriculture Minister, Khaled Hneifat, on Tuesday discussed with Head of Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA)'s Productive Sectors Section, Jordan's office, Reem Najdawi, ways to bolster food and water security in the Arab region, a bid to be achieved through capacity-building development in the assessment of diverse climate change impacts on agricultural productivity.

Talks during the meeting touched on the institutional framework of the good agricultural practices (GAP) in the Kingdom and Lebanon and the launch of a regional food security monitoring network in the Arab world to foster agricultural sector's sustainability and resilience to counter rigorous climate change and conflict-driven challenges.

Jordan has been picked to carry out the third phase of the food security (GAP) project, since Jordan is a consumer and exporter of fresh fruit and vegetable produce country, and due to its reliable record and expertise in the (GAP) domains.

The discussions also aimed to kick off sustained contact among the diverse (GAP) stakeholders to ensure feasibility of food security programmes.
