Qatar- Celebrations delight visitors at Asian Town

Expressing love and gratitude to Qatar, Asian communities yesterday organised an array of colourful programmes to mark Qatar National Day at Asian Town which enthralled the audience.

The event which was attended by thousands of workers included parade, display of motorbikes, vintage cars and various cultural shows. Students of Indian, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan schools and members of expatriate communities participated in the programmes.

School students performed special programme under 'Qatar Theme Show to show their love with Qatar. 'The show has been designed to express support and solidarity with Qatar especially under current situation, said coordinator of a community school.

He said that the students of his school were singing 'Had we known that Qatar is the best place we would have come here earlier during a performance in their native languages.

'The programme of expatriate communities showed their love and gratitude for Qatar, said Major Mubarak Salem Al Qamra from Community Police. He said that they were participating in the happiness of Qatari citizens on the National Day.

'Community Police always participates in such events to educate the expatriates about law and regulation of Qatari community so they could live peacefully in the country, he added.

The cultural programme presented by the Mahrashtra Mandal-Qatar received great applause by the audience. 'Our team performed a mixed cultural porgramme under Sachin Thematic Show, Gajanand B Ravan, a member of the Mandal told The Peninsula.

He said that the theme was connected with sea and there were some other elements in it like religious touch and unity.

More than 60 individuals from kids to over 50 years people male and female performed in the programme, he added.

The cricket stadium at Asian town pulled huge crowd where international players from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India played a cricket tournament.

'Asian communities love cricket therefore thousands of people have come today to watch their favorite international players playing in front of them, said Sajjad Husain, coordinator of the event.

A huge medical camp for scanning diabetes with the capacity of 5,000 people was also set up at Asian Town to provide free-of-cost tests to workers.

Hamad Hospital and five private health centers offered their services. 'We have conducted diabetes tests of more than 2,000 individuals, Ragae Ahmad MDughmosh from Hamad Hospital told The Peninsula.

He said that the result suggested 20 people with diabetes in initial stage another about similar number were diabetic patients.
