President Erdogan: Turkey embassy to open in East Jerusalem

(MENAFN) Following President Trump announcement for the US to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared Sunday that a Turkish Embassy is decided to be opened in East Jerusalem.

Reuters reported the Turkish President declaring "God willing, the day is close when officially, with God's permission, we will open our embassy there."

The statement follows a summit held a week ago in Istanbul where the President along with other Muslim world figures criticized the United States decision involving Jerusalem.

During the summit, President Erdogan reportedly appealed to other countries to officially recognize Jerusalem as "the occupied capital of Palestine."
