Oman- WCAS organizes second Community Fest -2107


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Waljat College of Applied Sciences in academic partnership with Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi, India, organized 2nd Annual Community Festival by Community Engagment Committee on December 12, 2017, Tuesday at college premises.

The Fest was aimed at students from 9thto 12thgrade. Fest provided students an opportunity to take a glance into higher education and the different career options they have ahead. The event was presided over by H.E Hilal bin Hamed bin Mohammed al Sarmi, member of the Shura Council and Dr. Dilip Kumar Singvi who is Presently working as head of internal medicine,diabetes and medical director apollo hospital.Dr. Singhvi is recently conferred with 'Man of Excellence Award' for outstanding achievements in Health and Social Service.Dr.Singhvi addressed the students and spoke about changing lifestyle in the current times.

During the Fest, free health checkup was organized by Apollo Hospital Muscat which was coordinated by Heath and Safety Committee. Environment Club, Fine Arts Club and Cultural Cub also extended their support by coordinating the different events/ competitions for the school's students in Oman.

More than 150 studentsfrom different schools in Muscat and Sohar region participated contributing to success of the Fest this year. The participating Schools were Bangladesh School Muscat, Bangladesh School Sohar, Indian School Mabela, Indian School Muladha, Qurum Private School, Al Ruwad International School.

All the participating schools exhibited their skills and competence in various competitions held in the Fest. All the schools fought for their positions in highly challenging events. 'Working Model' completion was won by Indian School Maabela , 'The Arithmetic Challenge' was won by Indian School Muladha, 'Star Quest- singing' was won by Al Ruwad International school whereas 'Star Quest Dance' was clinched by Indian School Muladha. Winner of 'Fancy Monologue' was Indian School Muladha. Qurum Private School with AL Ruwad International School took winner's trophy for The 'Business Plan Idea Pitch'. ' Poster making' competition was won by Bangladesh School Sohar, Bangladesh School Muscat got winner's trophy for 'Economics Quiz', 'Essay Writing, winners were Indian School Mabela. Bangladesh School Sohar were awarded 'Maximum Participation Award, for sending maximum number of participants in the Fest.

Student Affairs department along with department of Blood Bank's services, Ministry of Health had organized Blood Donation Camp, around 70 students and staff has been participated in the event and donated te Blood for the social cause.

The main sponsors of the fest were Muscat Pharmacy, A Saffa Foods, AlQasab Printing Press & Turkawaz Flowars.

Dean, Prof.S.L.Gupta addressed all the participating school students and shared his views on importance of time management and gave the students tips for success in life. Prof. Gupta in his motivating speech asked the students to be happy in all situations, to focus on the self's core strengths. He also shared the importance of teamwork, self discipline and being focused on the goal of life. He shared that these things are important for being successful in life.

The program was concluded with cultural performance by the college students and award winning ceremony. All the schools took away with winning some prize during the Fest.
