(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Board of Trustees of the Recognition and Encouragement Award has announced the winners of the fifth edition of the Appreciation and Encouragement for 2015/2016 on Saturday at the Ministry of Culture and Sports, in the presence of members of the board and a number of intellectuals and interested parties.
The Vice-President of the Board of Trustees Dr Ibrahim Saleh al-Nuaimi announced the two winners for Social and Human Sciences: HE Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdullah al-Subaie, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Global Organisation for the Advancement of Arabic Language and the former Minister of Education, in the Education Category, and the late Mohamed Jassim al-Khulaifi in the category of museums and archaeology, while the administration decided to block the prize in the category of Islamic studies / Islamic thought /.
In the social and human sciences category, Dr Saif Saeed al-Suwaidi won the prize in Economics and Dr Yousif Mohamed Yousif al-Obaidan won in the Political Science category.
In the applied sciences category, Dr Hamad Abdulrahman al Saad al-Kuwari shared the prize with Mr
Muhanna Rashed al-Assiri in the Environment / Earth Sciences and Environment category, while Dr Huda Mohamed al-Naimi and Dr Asma Ali Jassim al-Thani shared the prize in the Medical Sciences and Nursing Category.
In the arts and literature category, the artist Salman Ibrahim al-Malik won the prize in the art of caricature, while the writer and Abdulaziz Ibrahim Saad al-Mahmoud took the prize in the novel category.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh al-Nuaimi said that the award is a recognition of the State of its creators and their outstanding contributions in various scientific and humanitarian fields, stressing that the winners will be honoured at a special ceremony to be announced later.
He said that the value of the two prizes this year is 2mn and QR800,000.
The winner of the State Appreciation Award will receive QR500,000, a gold medal and a certificate of appreciation, while the winner of the State Encouragement Award will receive QR300,000, a certificate and a gold medal.
If more than one person wins, the prize amount shall be distributed equally among them, each of whom shall be awarded a gold medal and a certificate of appreciation.
