Ashghal has completed 250km of highway works out of a total of more than 400km in 2017, which amounts to 61 percent of the projects.
The openings included the completion of 40 multi-level intersections as well as 242 km of bike tracks and 242 km of pedestrian paths, QNA reports.
Public Works Authority (Ashghal) President Eng. Saad bin Ahmed Al Muhannadi extended his greetings and blessings to Emir H H sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Father Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the wise government of the State of Qatar and the Qatari people on the occasion of the National Day.
He expressed his pride in the trust bestowed by the wise leadership on Ashghal and stressing the continuity of the march of achievements with his colleagues at the authority in high spirits and determination to carry out the duties delegated to them so as to reflect the statement of the Emir that 'Qatar deserves the best.
Speaking to QNA on the occasion of the National Day, Al Muhannadi said the slogan of National Day celebrations this year, 'Promise of Prosperity and Glory, represents 'what we see in terms of economic, urban and scientific renaissance and what we feel in terms of determination to overcome all the challenges facing us, adding that this is the feeling of the Qatari people, including the Ashghal team who work hard to complete the state projects to the fullest.
In terms of achievements, Ashghal has managed many of those in 2017 in expressways, infrastructure and sewage networks.
As for the road sector, G Ring Road was opened along with the middle stage of Dukhan Highway, the southern part of Doha Expressway (parallel to Al Wakrah Road), Hamad Port Road, in addition to the first phase of Al Rayyan Road, the first phase of the Orbital Highway, major parts of the extension of Rawdat Al Khail Street and Lusail Expressway.
In 2017, the department of road maintenance continued to carry out the necessary road maintenance work, including internal roads in some residential areas, and the completion of the project on enhancing traffic safety in around schools, which has so far affected 384 out of 393 schools.
For local road projects, 15 have completed this year, including the conversion of Olympic and television roundabouts to intersections with traffic signals, the development of roads and infrastructure in the Old Airport area, Najma Street, E Ring Road, and Ali bin Abi Talib Street, in addition to a number of road improvement projects inside and outside Doha and the establishment of temporary roads in Al Khor and Al Dhakhira.
Ashghal was keen to accelerate the pace of service implementation in residential areas and citizens' lands in accordance with the deadlines, accelerate the tender of infrastructure for citizens' lands, and support and facilitate procedures for the promotion and rehabilitation of factories.
The Public Works Authority completed 23 projects of the infrastructure program for regions, which serve 15,108 housing units and include the areas of East Al Aziziyah (main streets), Bani Hajer, Rawdat Ekdeem, Aba Al Hayran, Al Sailiya, in addition to infrastructure development projects for residential plots in the areas of West Al Mashaf and North Al Wukair, which will be completed this year as well and serve a total of 1,829 housing plots for citizens.
Moreover, another 25 projects are currently underway to develop roads and infrastructure in different areas of the country, including West Muaither, Al Froush, Al Kharaitiyat, North Al Nasiriyah and Al Kheesa. Most of these projects are set to complete over the next three years.
Regarding achievements in the building sector, Ashghal has delivered about 15 schools and kindergartens as well as 12 projects of endowments, including mosques and Quran memorization centers.
In addition, the authority delivered the three new health centers of Muaither Center for Health and Wellness, Al Wajba Center for Health and Wellness, and Al Waab Health Center, in addition to the Simulation Center for Professional Education and the delivery of the aquatic life research center in Ras Mutbakh to the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
As for the operation and maintenance of sewage, Ashghal has completed 16 projects to connect homes to the main sewage network in different parts of the country. Over the past three years (2015-2017), the authority has implemented more than 2,000 connections for houses and buildings to major sewage networks.
To celebrate the National Day, Ashghal is organizing a series of traditional heritage-inspired events, including a heritage village that embraces the past and present of Qatar and its history. These events and the heritage village provide an opportunity for Ashghal staff to revive the heritage of the ancestors and introduce the younger generations to their history and reinforce their attachment to it.
