Qatar has highest electricity reserve in Arab world

Qatar has the highest electricity reserve in the Arab world with an estimated surplus of about 3,000 megawatt, said President of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari.He said that the country also has about 25 percent water surplus on current demand.

Speaking at a ceremony at Kahramaa headquarters on the occasion of Qatar National Day, Al Kuwari said that Kahramaa made remarkable achievements in 2017 at all levels.

He said that this year, a number of power stations for the stadiums of 2022 FIFA World Cup and Doha Metro came into operation. 'Kahramaa also feel proud of supplying electricity and water to Hamad Port, a largest port in the Middle East, he added.

In 2017, Kahramaa bagged several local, regional and internatnioal awards including GIS (SAG) Award as the best institution in implementing geographic information system (GIS). Regarding the water security, Kahramaa is implementing the project of Mega Reservoirs, that is a backbone of water security of the country.

The project includes 15 water storage facilities, the largest in the world with the capacity of 100 million gallon water in single storage facility. Phase one project will start operation by mid 2018. 'On the occasion of Qatar National Day, we reiterate our commitment to remain partner for all plans and programmers of the development of the country. Karamaa is committed to complete water security project and other infrastructure on given time. With the support of wise leadership, Kahramaa has been implementing its strategic projects as per the schedule with high standard overcoming on the blockade, said Al Kuwari.
