4 jailed for robbing man after bogus dinner date in Dubai

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Three men and a woman, who robbed a Lebanese man of Dh101,000 after luring him to their flat and forcing him at knife-point to give them his bank cards and the pin numbers, have each been sentenced to three years in jail.

The Court of First Instance found the four Nigerians guilty of charges that included robbery, physical assault and making criminal threats, in addition to unlawful use of the complainant's bank cards. They had a woman accomplice, who is at large.

The court also ordered their deportation after completion of their jail terms.

According to public prosecution records, the five Nigerian nationals, aged between 23 and 32, opened an account on Tinder in which they posted the photos of a good looking European woman. They lured the victim, following conversations with him through that account, to a massage date in a flat. There they physically assaulted and robbed him out of his cash and mobile phone after threatening to kill him.

They took his car keys and went down to his car and brought his wallet with his bank cards and forced him at knife-point to reveal the pin numbers.

They managed consequently to withdraw Dh55,000 and Dh45,000 from two banks.

The case was reported to Al Barsha police station on July 10.

The 42-year-old complainant, who works as a salesman, said he had met a Russian woman in July on Tinder and they developed a relation. She gave him her mobile number and invited him to have dinner at her place.

"I went to her flat and an African woman opened the door for me. When I asked about the woman with whom I had the date I was told she was inside. But when I walked inside, another black woman came. They locked the door and told me to give them my money."

When he refused, three men came and snatched his mobile phone. They kept punching him to give whatever cash he had. "I gave them Dh800. They then snatched my car keys and went down the building to bring my wallet," the complainant said.

They threatened to kill him with a knife and managed to force him to reveal the pin codes. One of them went to a bank and withdrew Dh100,000.

The accused later took pictures of the victim threatening to come looking for him in case he reported them to the police.

But he complained against them as soon as they let him go. The police arrested four of them shortly later.

The verdict may be appealed within 15 days.
