Afghanistan- IS presence expanding in north, northeast: MPs

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) (Pajhwok): Some members on Wednesday claimed families of foreigners with unknown identities settled in the north and northeastern parts of the country had launched anti-government activities under Daesh command.

Mualvi Abdul Rahman Rahmani, a lawmaker from northern Balkh province, said: 'Unknown foreign families after entering from Europe have settled in the north and northeastern parts of the country and have launched anti-government activities.'

These people had been active in Nangarhar, Jawzjan, Faryab and Sar-i-Pul provinces in Daesh framework and the international community should prevent their activities, he said, adding he was unaware how these people entered Afghanistan.

Zalmai Mujadidi, another lawmaker from Badakhshan province, acknowledged Rahmani's claims and said some foreigners along with their families had settled down in parts of Afghanistan and had launched recruitment for Daesh.

He said: 'There are reports that Israeli intelligence officials had entered Afghanistan in disguise of US security forces. Israeli intelligence agencies are responsible for supplying equipment to Daesh in Afghanistan.'

Mujadidi did not go into details but said: 'Americans come to Afghanistan without visa and there is no one to ask them. We don't actually know if they are Americans or intelligence personnel from the regional countries.'

Attempts at seeking comment in this regard from the Presidential Palace, the National Security Council and Foreign Ministry were not successful.

Some other lawmakers also claimed Daesh rebels were engaged recruiting in the north and eastern parts of the country and if the terrorist group was not prevented, the spring season would be harder.

Earlier, security forces have detained 11 foreigners including and children in Logar province.

At the time, officials had claimed one foreigner belonged to Chechnya and two to Azerbaijan.

Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi said Daesh was present in Afghanistan daily subjecting the people with their insurgent activities.

He demanded security forces launch special operations in areas where the militant outfit was present.
