Qatar- Signal to replace Immigration Interchange Roundabout

To improve the flow of traffic at the Immigration Interchange Roundabout, Ashghal is all set to convert the existing roundabout into a signalised intersection.

For the purpose Ashghal yesterday floated tender. The announced tender of Ashghal has two sections including Immigration Interchange Roundabout and February 22 Street.

Among some other tenders, the tender for this project was also shared on Ashghal's social media accounts. The roundabout is located at the intersection of the February 22 Street with Khalifa Street.

The existing configuration of the intersection is a 3-level interchange consisting of an overpass along February 22 Street and an underpass along Khalifa Street with an at-grade existing roundabout, says the information shared in tender.

The tender bond is QR4m while the closing date for submission of tenders is January 23, 2017. The project involves converting the existing roundabout at the Immigration Intersection into a signalized intersection by covering the existing void with a concrete slab and modifying the existing junction configuration.

The improvement of the February 22 Street includes utilizing lanes from the service roads to increase the mainline capacity and modifying entries and exits to/from the mainline.

The main objective of the project as defined in the tender is to improve the operation of the Immigration Interchange Roundabout by converting the existing roundabout into a signalized intersection and to improve the operation of February 22 Street within the project boundary.

On Section 1 of the project 'Immigration Interchange Roundabout the works include traffic and pedestrian signal controlled intersection; pavement construction; kerbs, footways, vehicle safety barriers and pedestrian guardrails; signage and road markings among other details. The structural works on the 'Immigration Interchange Roundabout include construction of a concrete deck to fill the existing roundabout void with new central piers along the median of the existing underpass. Also, existing underpass U-shape walls to be extended to become abutments of the new structure with walls jacketing and strengthening of the existing foundation.
