Abu Baker Salem, Iconic Saudi singer passes away


(MENAFN)Abu Bakr Salem, an iconic Saudi singer died at the age of 78, following a long struggle with disease, after warming hearts and shaking emotions throughout the Arab world.

He wrote a lot of patriotic songs and was recently a part in Saudi Arabia's national day celebrations in the Red Sea city of Jeddah.

Saudi and Arab artists were sorrowed for his death and said the arts in the kingdom have lost one of its symbol as he left behind him a rich repertoire of poems, songs and works of literature that extended through the whole Arab world.

He was born on March 17, 1939 in Traim, a historic town situated in the Hadhramaut Valley of South Yemen, and later on moved to Aden where he took up singing.
