ABU DHABI, 12th December, 2017 (WAM) -- A UAE newspaper has said that the Houthi militias in Yemen are "losing, and losing badly."

In an editorial on Tuesday, the English language daily, The Gulf Today said, "The international community has been taking note of their endless atrocities and now, clearly, their time is up."

"Brigadier-General Abdul Salam Al Shehhi, Commander of the Arab Coalition Forces on the west coast of Yemen, has made it clear that the UAE, Sudanese and Yemeni armed forces are conducting, with courage and determination, an epic battle to liberate Yemen from the control of the Iran-backed Houthi militias," the paper said.

It continued, "The Houthi militias have already suffered a major collapse in their defences and hundreds of their dead, injured and captured members have been treated according to international laws by the coalition forces. The jubilation on the faces of Yemeni citizens from liberated areas is a lucid indication of their desire to liberate their country from the Iran-backed Houthi militias."

The paper went on to highlight the UAE's efforts to improve the living conditions of Yemenis in liberated areas. "According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the humanitarian aid covered a number of vital sectors, reflecting the UAE's keenness to reduce the suffering of the Yemenis and is in compliance with the nation's desire to establish growth, security and stability in Yemen," it explained.

"The provision of medical care for injured Yemenis is another part of ongoing programmes that aim to address the difficult circumstances facing the local population, which were caused by the violations of the Houthi militias. Several wounded Yemenis, who were receiving medical treatment in India as part of a UAE-funded programme, have already arrived back in Aden and have expressed their deep appreciation to the UAE for its efforts," the editorial noted.

The Sharjah-based daily concluded by saying, "There is no doubt that the victories in West Coast and the liberation of strategic city of Al Khokha will pave the way to liberating all districts and to cutting off supply lines of the Iran-backed Houthi militias."
