Jordan- FM, Indonesian counterpart discuss US decision on Jerusalem

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Dec. 11 (Petra) -- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi said Monday Jordan considers the United States' decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and relocate its embassy to the holy city "illegal", contravenes with international law and Security Council resolutions and contradicts with all references related to the Palestinian issue.

In a joint statement with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi, Safadi added that he and Marsudi discussed the issue of Jerusalem and agreed to coordinate efforts to respond to the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, underlining that "the decision is totally unacceptable to us." He noted that "Jordan believes in the need to unite efforts to come up with realistic solutions that will enable us to appropriately respond to this decision and its consequences," stressing that it is necessary to work together; Arabs and Muslims, through coordination with the international community to achieve the best solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, namely the two-state solution, in order to establish an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 lines with the occupied East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Indonesian Minister for Foreign Affairs said: "We discussed preparations for the upcoming Islamic summit in Istanbul," adding that the meeting was constructive "as we discussed the latest developments in the region and Jerusalem." Marsudi added that Indonesia and Jordan see eye to eye about rejecting and condemning the US decision, emphasizing the importance of focusing on responding according to concrete and deliberate steps, not only coordinate with the rest of the Islamic countries, but also with various countries of the world, especially since Jerusalem is a sensitive and very complex issue.

"We agreed with Jordan on the need for continued coordination and communication and that the best solution to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is the two-state solution," she said.
