BADEA and UNITAR hold GIS training programme

KHARTOUM, 11th December, 2017 (WAM) -- A training session on Geographical Information System, GIS, was launched on Sunday, at the headquarters of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa, BADEA, in Khartoum. The training is executed and supervised by experts from the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, UNITAR.

The training programme aims to contribute to strengthening the Project Monitoring Capacities of African staff in order to follow up projects financed by BADEA, in areas that are far from capitals and are difficult to visit and follow.

The training programme has two phases. Phase 1 is training session to strengthen the capacity of 15 people from African countries in receipt of BADEA funding to monitor projects through enhancing their skills to use GIS in monitoring project implementation.

Phase 2 will study the implementation of the project monitoring system through the Internet Network to remotely monitor five projects. This can be increased at a later date.

The training session was opened by Dr. Tijani Najeh, Acting Director of Operations Department on behalf of Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, the BADEA Director-General.

The United Arab Emirates is a shareholder in BADEA, which was founded in 1973.
