Saudi veteran singer Abou Bakr Salim dies at 78


(MENAFN) Veteran Saudi singer Abou Bakr Salim Belfaqih has died today at 78 after a long battle with a disease, survived by a rich musical repertoire.

His last appearance was during the festivities marking the Saudi National Day last September, however, due to his sickness, he couldn't continue singing then.

He was born in Trym in Hadramout on the 17th of March 1939. In 1967, he left Aden, Yemen and settled in Jeddah where he played an active role in creating the song of Gulf 'Khaleji songs' with other pioneers such as Shadi Al-Khaleej, Tariq Abdul-Hakim, Talal Maddah and others.
