Qatar Chamber, Indonesian delegation discuss trade cooperation


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Chamber held a forum with an Indonesian delegation yesterday to discuss ways to enhance trade cooperation ties of both their countries, it was announced in a statement.
Indonesian Chamber of Commerce vice-chairman Helmy Shebubakar discussed trade cooperation opportunities in the fields of food, furniture, pharmaceuticals, contracting, and construction materials.
Qatar Chamber board member Ali bin Abdullatif al-Misnad said Qatar-Indonesia bilateral trade volume reached QR1.8bn last year. He said there are a number of Qatari investments in Indonesia, especially in the communications and banking fields, adding that there are around nine Qatari-Indonesian joint companies that work in the field of contracting, engineering, and Information Technology.
Al-Misnad said there are ongoing negotiations for many infrastructure projects in roads, power plants, ports, mining, and communications. 'There are a number of Qatari investors interested to know more about the available investment opportunities in Indonesia, he continued.
He stressed that the siege imposed on Qatar did not affect the country's ongoing mega projects. 'All construction works for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and infrastructure projects are progressing normally as per the schedule. Qatar remains as a safe haven and an attractive destination for foreign investments and worldwide capital, he said.
Shebubakar said the industrial sector in Indonesia contributes 40% to its GDP, and there are a number of 'unique productions in the furniture, building materials, pharmaceuticals, and communication fields.
He called for the establishment of investment partnership opportunities between both parties.
Major imports from Indonesia include cars, transport vehicles, building materials, electrical appliances, woolen textiles, iron and steel products. On the other hand, Qatar exports petroleum gases, ethylene polymers, iron, steel, and raw aluminium to Indonesia.
