French leader expects IS offensive to continue until Feb.

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) PARIS, Dec 10 (KUNA) -- French President Emmanuel Macron said on Sunday he expects military operations in Syria targeting the so-called Islamic State group to continue until February 2018.

Speaking at a press conference, he reiterated the need to reach a UN-mediated political solution to end the nearly seven-year conflict.

Macron said that French diplomacy would be moving towards building long-term peace which he said was crucial.

The president in July had suggested forming a contact group on Syria focused on launching a political transition in the war-torn country, including permanent United Nations' Security Council member countries and several regional powers. (end) mjz.sd
