Israeli security guard injured in knife attack in Jerusalem

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RAMALLAH, Dec 10 (KUNA) -- An Israeli security guard was seriously wounded Sunday in a knife incident at a bus station in Jerusalem, Israeli media reported.

The 24-year-old Palestinian suspect was chased and arrested by the Israeli army, according to reports.

The 40-year-old Israeli guard sustained serious wounds and was rushed to hospital, they said.

The incident comes amid protests in occupied Palestinian territories over US President Donald Trump's recent decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Trump on Wednesday recognized in a much-anticipated announcement Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and decided to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The US president's decision has sparked wide-scale condemnations and rejection at Arab, Islamic and international levels. (end) nq.mt
