Arab League says US Jerusalem decision violates human rights

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Dec 10 (KUNA) -- The US Administration's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the intention to move the US embassy to the city were clear violations of international law and human rights, said the Arab League Sunday.

In a statement marking 70 years of UNGA's Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the league said that the American decision will not change the true essence of the holy city, but it surely gives legitimacy to Israeli occupation.

Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Palestine, said the Arab League, which called on the international community to stand in support of the Palestinian people, Christians and Muslims alike, to enable them to achieve their dream in an independent state with Jerusalem as the capital.

On December 6, US President Donald Trump announced the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and ordered the transfer of the US embassy to the city, a move seen as a breach of US policies for decades. (end) mfm.gta
