(MENAFN)The United States has been urged by Arab foreign ministers to retract its decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, affirming that the decision would stir violence throughout the region.
After a session attended by the Arab league in Cairo, they said in a statement that President Donald Trump decision was a "dangerous violation of international law", had no legal impact and was "void".
Trump's decision was contradictory to a long-standing US policy that the city's status cannot be determined without negotiations with the Palestinians, who on their side want East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.
"The decision has no legal effect ... it deepens tension, ignites anger and threatens to plunge region into more violence and chaos," the Arab League stated after hours of meetings that began on Saturday evening.
