Detainees fate to be discussed as Johnson arrives in Tehran

(MENAFN)Tehran on Saturday, welcomed British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson who came to discuss the fate of imprisoned dual nationals, including a woman serving a five-year prison sentence for allegedly planning to overthrow Iran's government.

Johnson is to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Saturday to discuss "a number of consular cases involving dual nationals," Said the British Foreign Office.

Johnson said he would "press for their release where there are humanitarian grounds to do so."

"While our relationship with Iran has improved significantly since 2011, it is not straightforward and on many issues we will not agree," he stated.

"But I am clear that dialogue is the key to managing our differences and, where possible, making progress on issues that really matter, even under difficult conditions." He added.
