(MENAFN- Trend News Agency ) South Korea and the United States will hold bilateral energy policy talks in Washington this week to expand cooperation in the decommissioning of old nuclear reactors, government sources said Sunday, Yonhap reported.
The senior working level meeting that was first convened in 2006 is expected to allow Seoul to outline its policy drive to move toward renewable energy and ongoing efforts to dismantle the Kori-1 nuclear reactor.
The reactor was shut down permanently in June as the new Moon Jae-in administration has set its sights on reducing the country's reliance on nuclear energy.
In addition, the two sides are expected to touch on such matters as next energy storage systems and overall trends in the energy industry going forward.
The close trading partners, moreover, will touch on hydrogen fuel cell technology and the latest developments in the field of reusable batteries that can fuel growth of the industry.
