Qatar- QMMF team participates in FIA General Assembly

Paris:A Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) delegation headed by QMMF President Abdulrahman Al Mannai, and Khalid Al Rumaihi, QMMF Member and General Manager of the Lusail Circuit Sports Club, participated in the meetings of the General Assembly of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) in Paris. During the meetings, FIA President Jean Todt was re-elected for a third four-year term.

QMMF President Abdulrahman Al Mannai said that the FIA General Assembly was a success both in terms of the election of a new president for four years and in its discussion to develop the mechanism of work to ensure a good future for motor sport.

Al Mannai said in a statement that the QMMF supported the election of Frenchman Jean Todt for a third term, valuing Todt's efforts at the FIA presidency.

He added that the General Assembly discussed the impact of mechanical sport on the environment, as well as plans in environmental field in light of the rapid development of motor sports at various levels, which requires the development of special standards to measure the development according to quality standards, as well as enact some laws that keep pace with this development.

The QMMF President said that he had fruitful meetings with the heads of all federations that participated in the General Assembly, especially the European and Arab presidents, pointing out that he had also held two fruitful meetings with the French President John Todt.

Al Mannai said that he presented a detailed report to the FIA President on the achievements of the QMMF during the last season, which included hosting many international, regional and local championships in particular, as well as the achievements of Qatari drivers in various fields.

He also said that he discussed in his meeting with his international counterpart the future of relations between the two federations and how to strengthen them and develop bilateral cooperation in various world championships or rallies.

The meetings, he said, witnessed a great convergence of views on the development of sport as well as on bilateral cooperation, especially that with the president of the French federation whose country will organise several world championships in addition to discussing the possibility of benefiting from their experiences in this area.

Al Manai also congratulated Nasser bin Saleh Al Attiyah, the winner of two world championships this season (the Cross-Country Rally World Cup and the Middle East championship). This was on the sidelines of the annual ceremony to honour the 2017 winners of the world championships in various categories.

Khalid Al Rumaihi, QMMF Member and General Manager of the Lusail Circuit Sports Club, said that the meetings of the FIA General Assembly went well and the General Assembly unanimously re-elected John Todt as FIA President for a new term.

Al Rumaihi said that the Qatari delegation was active in the meetings of the General Assembly and discussed all the details regarding its local tournaments, and the Middle East tournaments and world championships that it hosts one of its tours.
