Kuwaiti FM heads to Cairo for Arab meetings on US embassy shift


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Dec 9 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah has left for Cairo to lead Kuwait's delegation to two Arab meetings in the aftermath of a US decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The first meeting concerns the Arab Peace Initiative Committee at the ministerial level, while the second gathering will be held by the Council of the Arab League upon a request from Jordan and Palestine. Both meetings will focus on US President Donald Trump's recent decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The Kuwaiti delegation also comprises Assistant Foreign Minister for the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister's office Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Egypt Mohammad Al-Thuwaikh, Assistant Foreign Minister for the Arab World Ambassador Azeez Al-Daihani and Kuwait's permanent delegate at the Arab League Ahmad Al-Baker.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled was seen off at the airport by a host of senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. (end) mt
