Kabul TV station attacked on Tuesday

(MENAFN)In the latest deadly assault targeting Afghan journalists, officials said that a person was killed after a gunman broke into a television station in Kabul on Tuesday.

An AFP photographer said that the militants were firing rocket propelled grenades at heavily armed security forces surrounding Shamshad TV, and some staff stayed trapped inside the building.

Security forces tried to bomb a wall of the compound for the sake of entering the Pashto-language broadcaster, which had gone off the air transmitting only a holding image.

"I saw three attackers on security cameras entering the TV station building. They first shot the guard and then entered the building. They started throwing grenades and firing." said Shamshad TV reporter Faisal Zaland, who managed to escape through a back door.
