Transit through Iran increases by 21%

Over 6.05 million tons of goods were transited through Iran in the first eight months of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20-Nov. 22), Reza Nafisi, an official with Iran Road Maintenance & Transportation Organization (RMTO), said.

The volume of transited goods indicates an increase by 21 percent year-on-year, Nafisi, director general of Transit and International Transportation Department in RMTO, said, the organization's public relations office reported.

About 1.772 million tons of transited goods were oil products and 4.28 million tons were non-oil products, Nafisi added.

He further said that mazut topped the list of transited goods in the 8-month period, followed by textiles, car parts, rice, gas oil, rubber and cotton.

Shahid Rajaee Port was the top border point in terms of cargo transit (2.194 million tons or 36.2 percent of total transits) followed by Parvizkhan (17 percent) and Bazargan (10.8 percent) border checkpoints, the official added.

The UAE was the main destination of the goods transited into Iran, he said, adding that Iraq was the main source from where oil products were transited to the UAE.

He said that 32 border checkpoints were involved in cargo transits in the period.
