Afghanistan- Thousands rally in Afghan cities against Trump's decision

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) (Pajhwok): Thousands of people on Friday staged protest rallies in various cities to express their anger at the United States announcement of recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

US President Donald Trump two days ago announced he was recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, triggering an almost universal diplomatic backlash.

Trump also ordered the shifting of the US Embassy in Tel Aviv to the contested city of Jerusalem.

Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas has rejected the US decision as unacceptable, saying Jerusalem would remain the capital of Palestine.

Thousands people protested in Kabul after Friday's prayers emerging two main mosques Abdul Rahman and Noman Bin Sabit.

The protestors from Abdul Rahman chanted slogan 'death to America, Israel and Trump.'

The protestors marched from the mosque until Serena hotel in Kabul, chanting 'Allah o Akbar'.

Addressing the protestors, member from eastern Kunar province, Shahzada Shahid, said President Trump's decision was not acceptable to the Muslims because Baitul Muqaddas was the fist qibla of the Muslims and the land in question belonged to the Muslims.

He said the Muslims of Afghanistan were standing united with their Palestinian brethren in this hour of trouble and were ready to defend them.

The lawmaker asked the US president to reconsider his decision in order to avoid clashes with Muslims.

Kabul provincial council head Rahimullah Mujahid said the Muslims would not allow thev US to move its embassy to Jerusalem under any circumstances.

The protestors issued a resolution letter which asked the Afghanistan government to severe relations with the US and close the US Embassy in Kabul.

The protestors also set afire an effigy of Trump and the US and Israeli flags.

A separate protest rally against the US decision was attended by hundreds of people in Karta Parwan area of Kabul.

Similarly, thousands of people took to the streets against Trump's announcement in Nimroz, Takhar and Kunduz provinces, chanting slogans against the US and Israel.

Nearly 2,500 people staged demonstrations in western Heart province after Friday's prayers, demanding Trump "reconsider his decision".

The status of Jerusalem is deeply sensitive for Muslims, and protesters have been taking to the streets in cities across the following the policy shift.

Trump's decision puts him at odds with the international community, which insists the issue can only be resolved through negotiations.
