ABU DHABI, 8th December, 2017 (WAM) -- A group of French falconers visited the Abu Dhabi Heritage Village as part of the cultural programme of the 4th edition of the International Festival of Falconry, IFF 2017, which opened in Abu Dhabi on 4th December and will run till 9th December.

Run by the Emirates Heritage Club, this reconstruction of a traditional oasis village provides an interesting glimpse into the emirate's past. Traditional aspects of the desert way of life, including a campfire with coffee pots, a goats' hair tent, and a falaj irrigation system, are attractively displayed in the open museum.

Ahmed Abdullah Al Muhairi, Director of the Village, along with other club officials, welcomed the French falconers and exchanged views with them on history, the significance of falconry, and its role in conserving heritage. A French falconer gave a presentation about the history of falconry in France while veteran UAE falconers spoke about falconry and hunting seasons in the UAE.

The French falconers thanked the Emirate Heritage Club for giving them the opportunity to learn about falconry in the UAE.

Over 700 falconers, experts and researchers, representatives from old clubs, cooperative societies and international falconry schools from more than 90 countries across the world are participating in the five-day festival.

Organised by the Emirates Falconers Club, it highlights the UAE's efforts in promoting the intangible cultural heritage of falconry in the UAE and worldwide as well as the successful inscription in the representative list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the UNESCO in 2010.
