Azerbaijani products to be exported to UAE

The trade and business relations between the United Arab Emirates and Azerbaijan are developing at a growing pace. In order to expand on this development,as well asto promote ‘Made in Azerbaijan' brand abroad, the next export mission of Azerbaijan was organized in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Export mission organized by the Ministry of Economy and Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) with the support of the Ministry of Economy included representatives of local companies engaged in the production and processing of fruit juices, dried fruit, canned products, honey, tea, meat and dairy products chosen on the competition.

Within the framework of the export mission, entrepreneurs took part in bilateral meetings held jointly by AZPROMO and the representative of Azerbaijan in the UAE. During the meetings, information about the local products was provided and discussed the opportunities of selling products in the markets.

During the meetings, great interest was shown in the Azerbaijani made products, especially honey, meat and dairy products.

National businessmen held bilateral meetings with UAE companies, discussed sales opportunities and distributorship of Azerbaijani products in markets. An initial agreement was reached with Al-Maya, Lulu markets and Al-Ghamdi company on export of canned products of Azerbaijan's Brightman BMC to UAE and Bangladesh.

Azerbaijan's Sunfood company has started negotiations on export of pomegranate juice and tea, while Kerkom and Azeri companies hold talks with Al-Maya, Lulu and Al-Qudwa for export of honey to UAE markets.

The delegation also visited Saudi Arabia's major retail chains and explored opportunities to organize sales of these products through these trade networks.

Azerbaijan, focusing widely on an export-led growth strategy, aims to expand the list of its foreign trade partners. This year the country targets to organize some five missions to increase awareness about the local production and promote ‘Made in Azerbaijan' brand.

Development of the non-oil sector mainly depends on the export of non-oil products and the main goal is to expand access to new markets, besides traditional markets.

Azerbaijan imports goods from the UAE, which are, in fact, re-exported from other countries. It is mostly metallurgical and chemical products, textiles, building materials, tobacco products, household equipment. Azerbaijan mainly exports to the UAE fruits, juices, nuts, metal semi-finished products and so on.

The trade turnover with the UAE for 10 months of 2017 amounted to $29.28 million, which is 2.1 times less than the same period last year, according to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan.
