Kuwait- Drone strike kills 25 IS fighters in E. Afghanistan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, Dec 6 (KUNA) -- At least 25 fighters belonging to so-called Islamic State (IS) have been killed in a drone strike in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province, said official on Wednesday.

Provincial police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashraqiwal told media that the strike targeted an IS hideout in the Momand Dara area of the Achin district in Nangarhar.

He claimed that 25 IS fighters, including key members of the insurgent group, were killed in the raid but did not provide details.

Weapons, ammunition and explosives were also destroyed in the attack.

Security forces and civilians suffered no casualties in the unmanned aerial strike. The insurgent group has not commented on the incident.

Last month, at least 18 IS fighters were killed in an air strike and a clash in Achin district.

In April, US targeted a hideout of IS in Achin, a stronghold of the group in the province, with the largest non-nuclear bomb used in the combat. (end) sbk.msa
