Germany warns of moving US embassy to Jerusalem

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BERLIN, Dec 5 (KUNA) -- German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel warned Tuesday against dangerous impacts of moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which would mean the US Administration's recognition of the occupied city as the capital of Israel.

Gabriel, in remarks at the Korber Stuftung institute, said solving the issue of Jerusalem "can only happen through direct negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians.

"Therefore we reject anything that could trigger escalation of the dispute between the two parties," said Gabriel, who made the first official reaction to the US possible move.

Germany, he asserted, was committed to the two-state solution as a solution for the Middle East conflict. (end) anj.bs
