Trump tells Arab leaders US to move embassy to Jerusalem
President Trump has decided to move the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, and could recognize the city as Israel's capital, the Wall Street Journal , citing US officials.
This move would no doubt be incredibly controversial in the Arab world, and many warn it could prompt a backlash and squash the faint hopes of Trump successfully following through on a promise to bring Israelis and Palestinians to the negotiating table.
Trump told Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Jordan's King Abdullah II via phone on Tuesday, according to statements from their offices. He also reportedly informed Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi.
A statement from Abbas' office was quoted as saying he would 'continue his contacts with…world leaders to prevent such unacceptable action.'
