White House hints Trump will order US embassy move to Jerusalem

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Dec 5 (KUNA) -- The White House on Monday indicated that President Donald Trump will announce a move of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, but did not say when.

During a briefing aboard Air Force One, deputy press secretary Hogan Gigley said, adding"I'd like to address Jerusalem. That's obviously been an issue we've received a lot of incoming on today." "The President has been clear on this issue from the get-go; that it's not a matter of if, but a matter of when," Gigley said, referring to the embassy move.

"No action, though, will be taken on the waiver today, and we will share a decision on the waiver in coming days," he added.

Since passage of the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995, successive US presidents have waived the requirement that the embassy be moved.

The presidents have said the law is a congressional infringement on the constitutional authority of the executive branch over foreign policy. (end) rm.mb
