(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Dec 5 (KUNA) -- The EU has called on the US to avoid any action that would undermine the Middle East Peace Process and would have serious global repercussions.
"Since early this year, the European Union was clear in its expectation that there can be reflection on the consequences that any decision or unilateral action affecting Jerusalem's status could have, " Federica Mogherini, EU High Representative said in a phone conversation with the Jordanian Foreign Minister Safadi last night on a possible US announcement on the status of Jerusalem this week.
"It might have serious repercussions on public opinion in large parts of the world," she warned.
"The focus should therefore remain on the efforts to restart the peace process and avoiding any action that would undermine such efforts.
The EU will continue to engage with both parties and its international and regional partners, including within the Quartet, to support a resumption of a meaningful peace process," added the EU foreign policy chief. (end) nk.mb
