(MENAFN- Gulf Times) HE the Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanim bin Nasser al-Ali has highlighted Qatar's interest in spreading knowledge, culture and science since the era of the founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohamed bin Thani.
The country firmly believes in science and knowledge as fundamental pillars in the building and development of the State, he noted.
The minister was delivering a speech during the inauguration of Lusail Publishing and Distribution, held in the Qatar Authors' Forum pavilion at the ongoing 28th Doha International Book Fair in Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre.
He said the founder had printed many Arabic and Islamic books at his own expense, and sent them to a number of Arab and Islamic countries to spread knowledge and science.
He also printed the first Nabataean poetry divan named after Lusail city where he lived.
Further, al-Ali said the mission of the Ministry of Culture and Sports was to take care of science and knowledge, create a suitable environment and atmosphere for Qatari talents and others to be creative, and open up new horizons for Qatari creativity to serve the literary and intellectual movement, stressing that the State provides them with all the possibilities to help them achieve their mission.
He praised the setting up — and mission — of Lusail Publishing and Distribution along with other publishing houses such as Rosa and Katara publishing.
Director of Lusail Publishing and Distribution, Khaled Mubarak al-Dulaimi, said the publishing house will be an incubator for Qatari, Arab and foreign writers because it aims to spread the national vision and openness and at the same time look forward to enriching the Arab cultural aspect and supporting knowledge in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by a number of poets, writers, and other intellectual and literary figures.
