Italy seeks closer ties with Kuwait


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ROME, Dec 3 (KUNA) -- Italy's Interior Minister Marco Minniti said on Sunday that his country was eager to improve security cooperation with Kuwait.

Minniti made the remarks in discussions he held with Kuwait's ambassador to Rome Sheikh Ali Al-Khaled and the Kuwaiti military attachأ© Bashar Abdulredha, read a statement by the Kuwaiti embassy, which was obtained by KUNA.

The officials' talks centered on the need to up the fight against terrorism, namely, the so-called Islamic State (IS), as well as current happenings around the region, the statement added.

The statement quoted the Italian Interior Minister as saying that it was "extremely important" for both nations to work closer together, revealing that he intends on visiting Kuwait in the near future.

Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti envoy pointed out that his country was equally keen on bolstering ties with Italy, commending Italian authorities for their efforts to tackle a host of security challenges. (end) mn.nam
