4.6 quake hits NW Iran


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TEHRAN, Dec 2 (KUNA) -- An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale rocked Sero northwest of Orumiyeh city on Saturday afternoon.

The tremor occurred at 6:00 PM local time and its epicentre was at 37.8 degrees latitude and 44.59 degrees longitude, Tehran University's seismography centre said in a statement.

Sero located is 55 kilometres west of Orumiyeh city in border area of Iran and Turkey in West Azerbaijan province.

Earlier on Friday, an earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale rocked southwest Iran.

At least 456 people were killed in a 7.3-magnitude earthquake on the Iranian-Iraqi border on November 12. (end) mw.mt
