World Cup 2018 draw see thrilling encounters


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MOSCOW, Dec 1 (KUNA) -- World Cup 2018 draw, which took place at the Kremlin in Moscow Friday, resulted in Arab teams facing each other in the same group alongside the host nation, Russia.

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Russia and Uruguay fall in the Group A, while Tunisia will be playing against Belgium, Britain and Panama in Group G.

Morocco was also in a tough group, playing against Portugal, Spain and Iran in Group B.

France, Australia, Peru and Denmark are in Group C.

Argentina, Iceland, Nigeria and Croatia will be playing in Group D.

Brazil, the most winning country, will be facing Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia in Group E.

Defending Champion Germany will be heading Group F, which includes Mexico, Sweden and South Korea.

Poland heads Group H of Senegal, Colombia and Japan.

Russian President Vladimir Putin told the opening ceremony of the draw, which featured attendance of football legends, said his country was keen on transforming the world cup into a delightful sport ceremony.

The 2018 world cup, due in Russia next Summer, "will enhance the relations of the international sport family, as well as values of friendship, fair play and honest competition," he said.

"The World Cup will be an opportunity for the visitors of Russia to get acquainted with Russian culture and hospitality," he added.

The World Cup is due between June 14 until July 15. The games will be played in 12 stadiums distributed in 11 Russian cities. (end) as.bs
