Former Trump administration National Security Advisor Michael Flynn pleaded guilty on Friday to one count of lying twice to the FBI. The charges related to conversations Flynn held with Russia ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the presidential transition before Trump took office.

The plea deal agreed to by Flynn confirmed the former top Trump official is cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Trump campaign collusion with Russia.

In Flynn's statement, he pushed back on 'false accusations of 'treason' and other outrageous acts,' citing his 33 years of military service.

'My guilty plea and agreement to cooperate with the Special Counsel's Office reflect a decision I made in the best interests of my family and of our country. I accept full responsibility for my actions,' the statement went on.

Details of his cooperation agreement with the special counsel are not yet clear. Such an agreement is typically filed in written form and may shed light on what information he provided to investigators in exchange for leniency.
