Vienna: The State of Qatar reiterated its solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle to end the Israeli occupation of their territories and attaining their legitimate rights and establishing their independent state.
Ambassador H E Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al Thani, Qatar's ambassador to the Republic of Austria and permanent representative to the United Nations and international organisations in Vienna, made the remarks as he addressed a ceremony at the UN in Vienna on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
The Ambassador said that Israel must realise that not settling the Palestinian issue fairly is unacceptable politically and morally and jeopardises regional and international security and stability. He also highlighted Qatar's commitment to rejecting the Israeli practices against the Palestinian people in terms of attacks, sanctions, repression, arrests and settlements as a violation of international law and a threat to achieving peace in the Middle East.
Sheikh Ali called for the resumption of peace negotiations in order to end the Israeli occupation of Arab territories within a specific timeframe and reach a just, comprehensive and final settlement in line with the two-state solution that was agreed upon by the international community based on resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative, and establishing the State of Palestine on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.
