Kuwait- EU transport ministers to discuss competition in air transport

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Nov 29 (KUNA) -- EU transport ministers will discuss the progress made on the proposed EU regulation on safeguarding competition in air transport during their meeting in Brussels on December 5.

According to EU sources, the proposal aims to ensure fair competition between EU airlines and third-country carriers while maintaining conditions conducive to a high level of connectivity.

However, most such agreements with non-EU countries do not so far include fair competition rules, EU sources told journalists here Wednesday.

Fair competition conditions between air carriers can be addressed in the context of air transport or air services agreements. The European Commission has proposed a new regulation to replace the existing one.

The Current EU presidency held by Estonia has prepared a progress report outlining the discussions held so far and including comments on specific issues.

For it to be adopted, the text will need to be approved by both the EU Council of Ministers and the European Parliament. The EP has not yet adopted its position. (end) nk.sd
