Kuwait backs Palestinian legitimate rights, independence

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) VIENNA, Nov 29 (KUNA) -- Kuwait on Wednesday underlined complete support for the Palestinian people in their long struggle to regain their legitimate rights and establish an independent state according to the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as a capital.

In an address, delivered by the permanent delegation to international organisations in Vienna on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Kuwait urged the international community to recognize their right to self-determination and independence.

The delegation's Second Secretary Nawaf Al-Rejaib expressed Kuwait support for a Palestinian request for complete membership of the United Nations.

Al-Rejaib noted the 2012 acceptance of Palestine as an observer at the General Assembly, adding Kuwait looks forward to all of the legitimate Palestinian rights being accepted as quick as possible.

He condemned Israel's continuous aggressive attacks on the Palestinians, underlining that the occupying state has no regard for humanity or international laws and principles.

Israel also seeks to alter the spatial and temporal division of Al-Aqsa Mosque, erase the city's religious and historic landmarks, change its demographics and impose its construction of the so-called Temple Mount on top of the holy site.

These ongoing acts of aggression in Jerusalem are a direct result of the international community's repeated silence, he said, condemning the failure to hold Israel accountable as unacceptable.

Al-Rejaib went on to recall the Israeli military attack on Gaza, which resulted in the death and injury of over 11,000 Palestinians, a third of whom were children, and the displacement of around 300,000 others. He also recalled Israel's raid of Al-Aqsa Mosque, and its burning of parts of the holy site.

Israel's illegitimate practices, confiscation of Palestinian lands, building of a separation wall and judaization of Jerusalem exhaust all efforts for a two-state solution and retain a state of conflict and instability in the Middle East, he warned.

Just and comprehensive peace would only be achieved through Israel's respect of international laws and recognition of the State of Palestine, and the international community's upholding of its humanitarian, moral and legal responsibilities while ensuring the protection of the Palestinians, he added.

Al-Rejaib also mentioned Kuwait's recent hosting of a conference dedicated to the suffering endured by Palestinian children.

The event was held under the directions of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and witnessed the attendance of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Arab League chief Ahmed Aboulgheit. (end) amg.sd
